It was a quick Class 1 state meet for the Brentwood High School wrestling team. Each of the six who qualified was eliminated on the first day, going 0-2 on Thursday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.

Even most of the 12 matches themselves were quick. Brentwood wrestlers were pinned nine times, all in less than 3 minutes. The closest duals were the 7-5 decision Narvell Jordan lost and the two technical falls that defeated Gary Silerio.

It was an especially tough ending for both of Brentwood’s seniors, Silerio and Deshaun Johnson.

Silerio had shredded through most of the 145-pounders at the district meet last week and missed winning the title by only two points. He went to state with a 37-9 record and having been there three times before, including winning a match in 2015.

Johnson went to Columbia with a 39-7 mark and 37 pins, a school record. In the first round at 152 pounds he faced the eventual state champion.

In scoring no team points, the Eagles tied three other schools for last place, 51st, in a field of 54. In each of the past two state meets BHS has scored eight points and placed 42nd out of 50. Last year the six qualifiers went 2-12 in Columbia.

Following is how Brentwood’s six state qualifiers fared.
